Jeanie's Christmas Party Report 2019:
Over 70 people attended, and we had quite a few folks were weren’t able to make it this year due to other commitments.
Those of you who started attending BUG at the Black Hill Hotel will remember Peg – Karen Connell’s mum, who used to come each week. She moved back to Queensland a few years ago, but it was terrific to see her again at the BUG Christmas Party.
We also welcomed George Walpole back from his adventures around Australia with Donna. How good to play the songs that have Flute solos parts…. Great to hear that again.
Brian was very clever in writing new words to “I dream of Jeannie” (with the light brown hair) which he performed brilliantly…. I am not lost for words very often…. But you really got me with that one Brian.
I thanked all the members of the organising group, particularly Judy (and Helen) for keeping the gigs organised for us. I thanked Jill for her work on our Webpage, Facebook Page and also keeping all the logins sorted for everyone. Suzanne is often there first each week, and sets up the room for us, as well as playing a mean bass. The increase in people able to lead the group both at our BOG sessions and at Gigs, has been very impressive this year, with Rob, Clare, Peta, Jill, Judy, Helen all now able to do this for the group. Ian and Richard have also supported the Organising Group as well.
Open Mike has been a feature this year, with over 182 people performing. Some have been in small groups – e.g. Ukewaymen, Small Town Gals, Crowded Uke, AIR, TBAG, Handsome Buggers, Klamity Ukes and Ukulele Affair, as well as many individuals. This will certainly stay as a component of our weekly BUG sessions in 2020.
Finally, I would like to thank you all so very much for your kind donations. My new uke sounds grand…. And I know there has been some organising going on behind the scenes, so thanks to the organisers of the surprise…. You know who you are.
And so we move on to the next year for BUG.
